Rabbi Geoffrey GoldbergRabbi Geoffrey Goldberg has served Temple Beth David since August 2007. He was born in England where he obtained a BA in history from the University of Birmingham, England and rabbinic ordination at the Leo Baeck College, London. He worked as a congregational rabbi in London and, here in the USA, with several congregations in the New York area, most recently in Jersey City, NJ. He first came to the USA “for a year or two” to learn some basics of Jewish music at the Jewish Theological Seminary, New York. He has since gained a doctorate in Jewish Musicology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he lived between 1995 and 2000. He has a number of publications in the field of Jewish music and will be teaching a course on Judaism and its Music at the University of Rochester in the Fall of 2008. Rabbi Goldberg is a member of the Rabbinical Assembly, serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Synagogue Music, and is a research scholar of the Jewish Music Research Centre, Jerusalem Rabbi Goldberg recently became an American citizen. He feels enriched and blessed by his “multi-cultural” experiences of Jewish life and energized by the richness of talent and generosity of spirit that pervades Temple Beth David.
